Brief
Design an identity for 2018's annual Plaid (team of function directors and executives) summit and apply it to print media such as posters and journals, digital announcement to share in emails, and a giveaway for those that attend.
Challenge
Bring design to a team of professionals with a fun and inviting tone, while applying the concepts of what Plaid is and to fit It within the chosen theme for the summit.
Results
Created leadership materials to offer more value to the attendees with fun and differentiated communications and tools to convey trust, team, and success when all teams interact effectively.
Weft & Warp
Intersections of Teamwork
Weft and Warp are the two directional components used in weaving to turn thread into fabric. With this theme, I went on more of a typographic route. I made the ampersand the focus with its organic form and added areas of negative space to give off the impression that it is weaving itself.
Giveaway Items
I wanted to do just more than the average journal, I wanted to create a novelty item that was also useful outside of the summit. I created this journal with an ampersand that is woven through this frosted stock to bring the concept to life, and another design with a die-cut ampersand. Since this was being held at a whiskey distillery, I decided it would be fun to have the giveaway be a whiskey glass with the ampersand etched onto it.
The Branded Summit
Minor changes were made to the original poster but, the journal is where the fun is. The left one is the simple die-cut of the ampersand on white cover stock. For the right journal (which was the chosen journal,) the main cover is made from a slightly frosted stock to protect the ampersand which is actually woven through the white cover stock, and helps created a layering effect to add dimension to it.
